Re-Organizing The Christmas Decorations

Well, it’s the beginning of the new year. That means the Christmas decorations are coming down and the studio will be back to normal (or what passes for it). This year I thought I’d revisit the organizing of the decorations. I think I talked about it before, the image above coming from a previous article, but new people come along storing their old decorations so why not look at some new techniques involving the process?

This is the blue box where I store my decorations. Usually I put the stuff in the smaller boxes that they’ll fit in and call it a year. Some boxes were dedicated to a particular set of decorations but not really officially, meaning I didn’t always remember where they go. This year I opted to bring Operation: A Place For Everything into my decoration organization. (Hey, that rhymes!) I also made sure that this year I actually remembered to put everything away, as a couple of items skipped out and I had to place them somewhere else rather than having to dig the thing out for two items. This year they all (looks around room) are put away. Here’s some things I decided to try this year to make it easier to find what I want next year.

Christmas Decorations 2021

I didn’t put the Transformers around the little try like I usually do because I just wasn’t up for it this year. In addition to the issues I talked about last week the weather has just been in this state of eternal blah and the last few days especially both my dad and I have been victims of it, needing to take a nap during the day no matter how long we slept the night before. It’s been a rough year and I’m just happy I was able to get them up at all. Hopefully next year I can find or make a better platform that won’t have  larger Transformers barely on there while Mini-Con “kids” keep falling over. We’ll see what happens next year.

I’m going to be devoting project time to other things so we’ll hopefully see you for a better 2022. Until then have a Merry Christmas (or your holiday of choice but I hope December 25th is a good day regardless of what you do or don’t celebrate) and a Happy New Year.

2020 Christmas Decorating

It’s that time of the year again, and while 2020 has decided to make us as miserable as possible I refuse to let it take Christmas from me entirely. So this week I decorated. No new decorations but I like the way it turned out this year. Come along.

Christmas 2018 Decorating

It’s Christmas time again, so again this year I put up my Christmas decorations. During our going-over of the too many Christmas decorations we had I found a few that would work in my little studio that Dad didn’t want to use and added them to my own set. There were a few I wouldn’t have minded having but we had no place for, like the big snow globes. I did find a small snow globe that fits, so that was good.

I forgot to take a picture of it, but the flying rig for that Reindeer display is getting worse than when I first reviewed it, and I’ve only been using it to keep the sleigh team standing. The part Rudolph connects to broke off of the rig completely. and I really hope the company has redesigned the thing by now because it’s otherwise still a nice display. As for the new decorations I put together a gallery to show them off.

Christmas Decoration Overload

The amount of Christmas decorations I have are fine; just enough to make the studio room festive. For the whole house however, we had way too many Christmas decorations. We had decorations we hadn’t put up in years even before my mom got sick and a few we never put out at all. Now that she’s gone and he’s gotten older he doesn’t want to put out all those decorations, just a small tree and a few things to make it look like Christmas. So this week my Dad and I went through the decorations and lightened our load.

The pictures you’ll be seeing in this week’s report is not from that project. I didn’t take any. The dishes project was a rarity. Usually when I help my dad out I don’t take pictures because he doesn’t really care about the blog so much as getting it done. Instead, to break the text wall, I’ll be using images of my own Christmas decorations for the benefit of your eyes.

Even our little R2 unit is ready for the holidays.

Even our little R2 unit is ready for the holidays.

Long time readers may recall my usual Christmas tree. I got it from a customer at the store I worked at and it’s been good to me. This year as my dad was going through my late grandparents Christmas stuff he found another tree that he talked me into because the lights were already on it. As you all know I’ve had a hard year and while I still wanted to decorate I just wanted to relax this year and putting lights on even a small tree like this can be frustrating.

So I agreed to try this tree out. Unfortunately I had a bad day yesterday starting with my cereal getting soggy while trying to find something to watch during breakfast. While did it didn’t go downhill from there (I’ve been at the bottom of the hill enough this year) it did set the tone for the day outside of a friend visiting. It kind of continued to the tree. Not that it’s a bad tree though.
