The Art Corner Clean-Up: Second Strike

Update on this phase. Due to things happening during the week I didn’t get to devote as much attention as I planned to this part of the project, the one where I went over all the card backs with Transformers tech specs and other profiles, but I did go over them. I did send some stuff to recycling bin while still keeping stuff for a future art project that I still think I need. With that I moved on to the next part of art corner clean-up.

With the keyboard shelf now cleaned out of junk it was time to look at the middle shelf. (The bottom shelf will have to wait until I’ve continued my comic project and hopefully cleared up space for the comics sitting there to go where they belong.) This shelf has collected a bunch of various things. Primarily it’s where I have artwork that won’t fit in my huge art binder because of the paper size. See, most of the art was done on 8X11 paper because that’s what I used for years. It’s what goes into copiers or computer printers and that’s what was available. When I switched to Bristol Boards the smallest I could find was 9X12, and I can’t find binder sleeves that hold 9X12. This includes not only lineart for the comics I make but work on title cards for videos and other things I’ve worked on. Throw in a few magazines and it’s become something of a disaster. So this week the goal was to make this look less terrible.

The Art Corner Clean-Up: First Strike

If you’ve been here long enough you may remember my art corner, the spot I set up to my physical and digital drawing. While not too bad in comparison I just had the urge to clean this spot up a bit. The problem is I had a party to go to this week and thus didn’t have much time to do a big project. That’s on the top shelf there. The bottom shelf are Transformers comics from the IDW run that I don’t have a box for, the box containing my other Transformers comics already full from other companies runs. I like Transformers, obviously.

I didn’t even really complete this project; it would be more accurate to say I moved the clutter somewhere else, but I do a little cleaning and I’ll be finishing this project hopefully over the week. So what’s involved with it?

Doing The Dishes…Cabinet

This week’s project is dusting and that’s hardly interesting. However, I did so something with my dad last week while filing the book report. We used to have parties and people coming over. We weren’t party central or anything but we did celebrated birthdays and some other holidays. If not here, then we went other places and some of this week’s clutter would be used for that. Or would have been if most of what was up there was anything we used.

You know how you get plates as presents for special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, or Christmas that you don’t use? We had a big collection of that. Some plates were also bought thinking we’d use them and maybe we did for some gathering but there were more plates than three people, sadly now two, would ever dirty even on Thanksgiving. So last week we decided it was time to start making room in the cabinets.

Comic Re-Integration Finale + Bonus Projects

There’s nothing more satisfying than a completed project, especially a big one that needed four weeks to complete. But complete it is. I wanted to sort my comics so they flow in a better order to properly go through them all, and I succeeded. I ended up finishing before the week was out so I took on some smaller project that I could only do once the comic re-integration project was complete. Let me take you on a short journey through my week and all I accomplished.

Comic Re-Integration Project: Week 2

I needed a few days break before I resumed the project on Thursday. But I got quite a bit done in three days, and now I see the light at the end of the tunnel. Once I’m done with this I have to organize my records, then I can put the table away and have room to take down my Christmas decorations. So I want to get through this as fast as my body can go through. Here’s a breakdown of what I’ve accomplished this week.

Comic Re-Integration Project: Day 5 (Week 1 wrap-up)

There really isn’t much to report on today’s work. I sorted my Sonic The Hedgehog comics, and found there’s a few missing somewhere because of course there is. I found a couple of series I want to get rid of, but one of them needs to be reviewed on my other site first for completeness sake. I marked myself one week to complete this project, and I didn’t. There is still more sorting and organizing to do before my comics are in a proper order. That doesn’t mean I failed, though.

Comic Re-Integration Project: Day 4

It was time to break out the table again. Today was all about sorting comics. That was the plan…but the plan didn’t require me to hate myself for what I’ve done to myself! As I’ll get into I had to seal with one section of comics totally out of order and having to be sorted more than I thought, and other titles and letters I thought I was done with! It was a huge exercise in frustration and I only have my past self to blame! But I got through it and that’s what matters!

Comic Re-Integration Project: Day 3

Yes, it’s an older photo.

I’m calling it a day earlier than I have the past two days. At least as far as the project goes. I got two boxes sorted, so that’s a good thing. However, there’s another part of this process that’s slowed me down today.

And so it begins. Working on this project seems to constantly remind me just how bloated this collection is. I have to work with 9 longboxes, a lot of drawer and shelves, and a bunch of loose stuff scattered all over. I need to really cut this down, but that’s the long game. Somehow THIS is the short game!

The Clutter Between Rooms

I have this area between my bedroom and the in-progress studio that’s become a bit of a storage mess. It doesn’t help that there is a slight leak near the chimney that shows up during really heavy rain but that has little to do with this project. That’s why the bucket’s there. We have electric heat anyway. The thing is it’s rather ugly to look at, so this week I decided to tackle this area and make it actually useful. Useful for what?

When I get to (I’m hoping with the next phase) complete the comic organizing mega-project (which is not the same as the collection culling super mega project, which I also have for my Transformers) I want to try again to put the comics in the closet in my room. My hope is that the comics will all be in the same place by the time this is done, including the mini-comics, a few of which I reviewed here with a crosspost from BW Media Spotlight, my primary multimedia review site that I’m also using to go through all my old comics. Anyway, the bit problem is that when I have the longboxes for the comics in the closet I have no place to put my shoes that aren’t in the way. I don’t have that many shoes: sneakers, a pair of back-up sneakers I thought I’d use around the house but I’ve gravitated to sandals around the house, snowboots, and my comfortable dress shoes I also use at conventions because they’re better on my ankles than the sneakers in that situation, as well as my alternate slippers when the others are in the wash.

Well, thanks to the clutter cleaning elsewhere I now have room to put the shoes in this cubby hole since I have room to put other things. Yes, when you get rid of clutter in one spot it opens a place for you to store clutter you’ll actually use and increases your ability to store stuff without getting in your way. So let’s do some more of that!
