Yet More Smaller Projects

I’m reusing too many of the same images for these.

This post is going to be written a bit differently, but in truth I’ll only know it from my end. With the last two I wrote down what I did after the fact. This week I’m writing down what I did after I did it before moving to the next project.

These articles are not as glamorous as the big projects, but I need to do some of these smaller projects to make the big ones easier to manage. I’m making room for these things and that’s what I focused on this week. For example:

More Small Projects

Last time we discussed a project it was a series of smaller projects rather than one big project, something to try to start me off again after taking so much time off for Christmas and illness, the latter being unplanned. Getting sick numerous times in February and March was a huge problem and basically threw off a lot of my intended plans. It’s tough to take a mental break from projects for both my sites when I’ve lost so much time not being able to do much of anything. I hate getting sick.

This week I had a few more short projects I decided to focus on because they needed to be done so why not use the de-clutter day of my week to do them, what with the distractions this week?

Returning To The Clutter

Older picture. I’m reading a different book now.

Well, the Christmas decorations are all packed away until next Christmas and I already see my next batch of projects. Some will be digital but there’s also some physical clutter I need to organize because this year I really want to bring things together and make this a viable comic art and video making studio. This includes making a decent workspace and if there’s any “clutter” it’s the creative kind that sparks imagination instead of a mess that sparks apathy.

So the time has come to get back into clutter clearing. I hope to start selling some stuff off finally since the sale page here (not really surprising when you think about it) hasn’t been the solution. I might try eBay again or look into other options. I want to get back to listing comics for sale. I want to reorganize this space I’ve been working on into a better setup. I want to stop saying “I want to” and actually do it. Hopefully 2021 will a boost of a year to my organizing, just like when I started this site. When I began using my blogging to get myself to clean I was doing really well and got a lot done. I can’t say I’ve slacked off over the years but the amount of work that has to go into it definitely started to weigh on me. I knew this would be a long-term project but I don’t think I realized just how big a mess I made for myself in over 40 years. 2016’s medical issues didn’t help and I’m still trying to shake some of that off (like the hernia) but honestly I can’t simply blame the forced time off as the only reason I’ve fallen behind. It just gave me an excuse and it’s time I stopped using it as one now. It’s been five years since the diverticulitis kicked off the hell year (personal hell year, followed in the ranking by 2015 when I lost my mom and last grandparent, and 2020 for the obvious reasons). I think I’ve rested enough and even with being tired lately I need to force myself back on track.

I hope you join me on this journey, if not out of curiosity and cheer me on then to get you thinking about your own clutter-clearing journey. Let’s try to…

Okay, then let’s make 2021 the best year we can and finally get this party back in gear!

Video On Using “The Realtor Game” To Fight Clutter (+ email update)

Well, this week I succeeded in getting my “work” email up to 2018, so I started with my personal email. I got that up to February of 2020. Once that’s up to my goal of finishing all the way to the end of 2018 (which is reading everything through 2020 and 2019) I’ll start a different project. In the meantime I saw a video on a different website (it’s been a week or two of going through emails so I’m not sure which one) that I thought would be interesting. Ellen Lancaster plays realtor to show her what needs to be cleaned. Check this out.

Email Update + Article Link: Declutter The Home Office

First, an update on the project: Continuing my trip backwards in time (that’s how it feels anyway) I’ve gotten through all the emails up to June of 2019. However, I did have some help because a few months are missing, probably due to one of my previous attempts at this. I found there were a few emails I missed, like one around December 2019 that I’m sorry I missed and I can’t wait to see how many of those I had in 2016, when all my medical issues went down. Will keep you posted.

Going through these emails has found me a few “evergreen” articles I can use for my other site, and thanks to some clutter-clearing sites I’m subscribed to a few articles to have something on this site during the virtual clean-up. To that end here’s an article from Simply Leigh Organized, a professional declutterer, on how to make your home office less of a mess. On a similar wavelength I found a piece of cardboard I’m hoping will be perfect for redoing the DIY organizer in my art supplies drawers and as soon as I’ve reached my goal of at least getting through all of 2019 (which includes two separate email accounts, the work account and the personal one) I can get to work on that. So there is a new project in the future.

Quick Report: Email & Hiatus

This week I did some more email catching up. I was hoping to finish the whole year’s worth of emails. Yes, my backlog is that bad. I only made it to April, as if to further emphasize the point. I think I want to focus my Saturdays on getting caught up on this project, but it’s kind of boring to write “I did more emails” week after week so I think I’m going to pull away from new reports until this is done, or at least until I catch up to 2019. On both my work email and my personal one, the latter of which I didn’t even get to. If I take time to do other projects, like if I get the cardboard I need to redo the art supply drawer, or some other project that needs to be done, I’ll report on it. Otherwise there won’t be new updates until the clear 2019 emails goal at least is reached.

If you’re curious what else I’m up to in the meantime, check out my other website, where I discuss the art of storytelling via various methods. Some reviews I’ve done here came from there and vice versa, and of course the book report I do comes after the Chapter By Chapter weekly reviews. Otherwise I hope to be back here soon when I have projects to report on but these inboxes aren’t going to clean themselves and I’ll be using the methods discussed in previous email-clearing articles. Stay safe and keep decluttering!

Quick Report: Junk Drawer 2: Junk Harder

This week’s project was all about reorganizing the big junk drawer. Frankly there were a whole lot of changes from the last report I did on organizing the drawer so there’s not a lot to add. A little switching things between bags, throwing out a few things I’ll probably never use or are broken…not much. It was a necessary project and I’m glad I did it. Now it will be easier to find stuff if I ever go through it. That’s really all I have to report this week.

More E-Mail Decluttering

It was too hot up here in the attic HQ to do any work, and I’m going to need stronger cardboard to redo the mini-drawer organizers anyway. (I may have to design them before putting them in, which should be a good project. The set in there now is the result of being designed as I went rather than really planning anything out.) So this week I went through my e-mails.

My e-mail box gets cluttered up a lot. Not counting the year I was away from my computer most of the time due to being in the hospital the various projects I work on doesn’t always leave me time to really go through them. I do have some tips for how to make it easier and I even manage to take some of my own advice on this. Sadly, not enough or this wouldn’t be a recurring topic on this site, now would it? 😉

Re-Cleaning The Mini-Junk Drawer

It’s time to come back to this set of drawers. The bottom drawer is used as a sort of junk drawer, which is mostly extra stuff in the studio. It’s become more and more stuffed, as junk drawers tend to do. It’s kind of in the name. This is where we put things when we don’t have time or location to put them properly, or stuff we come back to often enough to warrant it. This one looked like this:

When you have trouble closing the thing it’s time to do something with it. So that was this week’s project.

Quick Report: Listing Comics For Sale

I’m not going to get rid of the comics unless I can sell them off. So this week I started listing comics on the Clutter For Sale section’s comic page. I actually had a few up there I didn’t realize I had already priced. I was going with the “new comic every day” plan but this week had numerous stop gaps and while I tried I fell a bit short. So yesterday I popped a whole bunch on there. Apparently I also need to add to the books for sale section and I though I had gotten them all. I must have lost some when I reorganized the section so I’ll have to fix that.

I’m actually low on long-term projects. The comics I do almost every day as far as going over them. The books I only get to read a chapter a week. The Transformers reviews may bring bonus traffic to the site (now that one I have completed of the ones I’ve gone over) but that’s not the mission of the site and it’s not like I couldn’t organize better. Plus I’d like to sell some of the ones already on the toy page before building that pile any further. And I just noticed one figure I didn’t list like a dummy so I need to fix that.

Now I have to see what the new computer can run software wise and what I actually need. That’ll be “fun”. The real clutter is my schedule. This is what I need to work on the most as far as getting my life back on track but that’s actually harder than you think. I’m also taking on another video project that requires specific artwork. Timing is probably my biggest barrier for anything. That and figuring out how to get rid of stuff I can’t just throw away. The work goes on. Advice is welcome.
