Dusting, DVR Cleaning, And Self-Repair

I was hoping to do my dusting last week and give you an interesting article this week. Well, the last two weeks got the better of me. Last week I had to go for an ultrasound to check on the status of my kidney stones. This week I went to the doctor to get the results. The good news is that there are no more kidney stones, or at least it’s too small to show up in the ultrasound. This is after an extraction in 2021 but one was still left in there. I vaguely remember having a forced “go” that I thought might have been the stone but it didn’t hurt…I promise there’s only one more icky part to go…so maybe that’s when it went. Point it the last obstacle to my life, medically anyway, is finally no longer an obstacle. Well, that doesn’t leave me out of obstacles though.

So this week I got a little dusting done in my bedroom, but I paced myself and just did the one area. It’ll take me a few days to finally get everything dusted, and then I have other rooms I need to work on. I’ll get more into the problems why that’s taking so long in a moment, but as you can tell from the title there’s three discussion topics. The dusting part I mostly already finished discussing. It’s dusting. All I have to talk about there is why I need to pace myself more. The other problem this week is that we’re changing television providers…again, meaning I also have to work around getting everything watched before we change over later next week. So I’ll talk a bit about that as well. It’s not decluttering per say, but it is cleaning and you have to keep the stuff you’re still holding onto tidy after all.

Quick Report: Finishing What I Started

Still not my bathroom: Photo by Jean van der Meulen on Pexels.com

A couple of weeks ago I started cleaning my bathroom. It was mostly just dusting but it wasn’t all I had to do in there. After spending the last week dealing with weird dreams that threw me off in the day (the third time that’s happened this month–please God let me be over it) and a couple bouts of insomnia I spent yesterday finishing the dusting and cleaning the tub.

Today I’ll be changing the DVR box to the new one. I didn’t get to watch everything I wanted but I got the most important stuff. If I can still use it as storage without it being tied to the cable company any more it would be nice to watch the rest before sending it to the recycler but as this posts I won’t know if that’s possible. Hopefully they’re movies and episodes I can pick up again in the future. We’ll see how that goes.

I did manage to read through some of my email backlog on the days my brain was working. That’s some victory.

I also hope to put some more comics up on the comics for sale section during the week on top of some other projects (including stuff I was too out of it to do last week despite being the reason I took a week off from my other site…because of course that’s when it happened) and get myself back on track. I want to really start learning how to use various software, update various videos on my YouTube channel while copying old ones to a back-up host, and finally pushing forward instead of struggling to keep up. On top of that I have to lose some weight and finally do a little living. We’ll see how that goes, too.

So that’s all I have to report this week. With luck I’ll have a more interesting discussion next week but this is also a journal of my de-cluttering journey.

A Dusting We Will Go

This week it wasn’t just the toilet that needed cleaning. I had some serious dusting to do…as in some of it was so caked on I needed cleaner to remove it. Despite how little I’ve been able to dust the past few years I don’t think that alone was the problem. Apparently wiping off surface dust wasn’t enough.

Unfortunately, as regular readers know, I’ve come off a few years of major medical issues and am rather out of shape. I was only able to get half the bathroom done before my energy levels dropped out. Before I could do the whole thing THEN pass out. So I’m going to be finished that either during the week or for project Saturday next week.

This isn’t the only dusting I want to do though. We’ve been letting this go for years due to various medical and other issues myself and my dad, and to tell you how long it’s been even with my late mother, and Dad really wants to get this house cleaned up. Given how much dust I have in my living space alone because I haven’t dusted up here seriously in God alone knows how long, I’m going to be focused on that, while also trying to find time to work on my other site and list more comics for sale, if only to have a price to sell them for when I have another option than the Clutter For Sale section of this site. The fact that I’ve sold anything is kind of amazing.

So I will work to do a few reviews of things I’m deciding whether or not to keep, but I also may end up missing weeks to focus on overdue dusting. I started The Clutter Reports to get myself to clean, organize, and declutter, and if writing an article actually makes that more difficult then it’s actually working against its purpose. So there will be reviews or missed posts for at least the rest of April and possibly part of May while I get this long overdue project complete. Before May is out we should be back to the usual projects and reviews properly timed. So um…pardon my dust I guess.

Dusting Day Quick Update

I don’t have a corresponding picture so here’s some random clutter.

Today’s project was to dust my bathroom. Not very exciting and I think I may have caused my sinuses some issues (you’d think with all these masks we have around now I would have thought to have worn one…before just as I was writing this post) but it needed to be done. Some time this week I need to clean it good too. Hopefully I’ll actually have something to report on or review next week.

More Dusting, More Organizing

I had to finish up the dusting I didn’t finish two weeks ago, and that included the dresser. Dusting the dresser is my opportunity to reorganize the darn thing. This image is from the last time I dusted the dresser, which was a long time ago. For some reason this always gets messy even when I declutter until I dust. I put a few things in different spots and it’s a better looking dresser top.

But reorganizing the dresser top got me thinking about the top of my computer desk as well. The little Iron Man figures (which I’ve reviewed) keep falling over even though they’re on little stands, and you can’t tell in this picture but the Donatellos were getting in the way of setting things back up. Also, Scooter’s knees are weak and he has a tendency to fall on his back. So I kept the Silver Centurion Iron Man (although not the cards or even the stands) and put the rest away with the Donatellos. Right now it’s just Silver Centurion, Super Clown, the ships, the Digimon, and VINcent fromĀ The Black Hole, and it looks much better. I want to get in the habit of rotating the displays, maybe just leaving the spaceships and changing everything else around whenever I dust, so it looks different every time and adds some variety.

I may do some more spot-cleaning projects before the next Transformers review set. It all depends on what time allows.

Dusting Day

All together now!

Technically another quick project. After last week’s review of Alternity Bumblebee I went to prep the Bumblebee Shelf (I still really want to paint this thing yellow with some black trim) and noticed it was rather dusty. So this week I dusted it prior to resetting the Shelf to bring in the new Bumblebee. (This is an old picture. He’s not there.) And since I dusted that I thought I would dust my whole bedroom, because it needed it. It’s sad how much dust was on the Zoids alone. I think I did dust since last year’s hospital stays but it still built up. I also know I dusted in the studio during an earlier organizing project but it could use a light dusting as well.

It also reminds me how badly I need to go through my old Transformers, since I have so many stacked in boxes that (a) I can’t reach part of my non-Bumblebee shelves and get to stuff even to dust them, and (b) what’s the sense of collecting things if they’re going to stay in a plastic tub where nobody will see them because the spot you’d set them up to pose is cluttered but you can’t do anything about it? Even the Bumblebee Shelf is starting to get crowded and there are a few Bumblebees I’d still like to get, like Masterpiece and something representing the current incarnation of Robots In Disguise. Plus there’s a version for Titans Return that looks pretty cool and they didn’t make him a “Titanmaster” (formerly Headmaster, of which not every character has to be–no love for Targetmasters?) which makes him even better for this line.

I did manage to sell off my Marvel Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comics and learned a few things about PayPal, like there are fees, as well as double-checking the price of comics. They could go for a lot more than I sold them for, but there were various reasons why I took the hit and I’m not sorry. Unless he ends up selling them himself, but it’s still a lesson learned when it comes to my other comics to not just look at price guide sites and see what they’re actually going for. An important lesson although with my luck the other comics I’m getting rid of won’t be worth as much as those. I have that kind of luck.

dust

This is a short follow-up to last week’s project. Remember last week how dusty my place was? This wasn’t even the worse area but it looks like the snow is starting in my room. Or at least it did. The dust levels were worse in other spots so the time came to fix this problem. And there was another benefit besides cleaning.
